Many readers felt that the previous blog had an unjustified heading, that America far from being destroyed was actually to rediscover her founding spirits and would spring board from the insurrection at The Capitol and renew her leadership of the Free World. As if the opprobrium of the ‘Free World’ was not enough, the news emerging about the actual effects of this run on the precincts of American Power, and views of security experts of steadfast allies, is something of an indicator of a much larger issue that justifies my billing of 6 January 2021!
No one could have imagined that Mr Trump’s personal ‘friends’ as in Mr Morrison of Australia, Mr Netanyahu of Israel, Mr Modi of India and Mr Johnson of UK would actually come out in the open and criticise the assault on The Capitol and even more acutely, lay the blame fair and square on him. Statements, Twitter handle borne or in open press briefings, were certain and crystallised, there was no shadow of doubt or benefit of doubt granted by each one of the four people with whom Mr Trump could claim a ‘chemistry’ and ‘bonhomie’ that he certainly did not enjoy with Mr Trudeau, Mr Macron or Ms Merkel. So Congresspersons of Republican Party would have been quick to note that what ever was the logic,the plot ran aground and Trumpism stuck a discordant cord overseas in an unexpected manner. Acceptance of electoral verdict and orderly peaceful transition of power, became ‘gospel truth’ to all of Trump’s backers in domestic politics who were capable of and kept a tab on international opinion of key Trump allies. Since Mr Modi and Mr Johnson tweeted, it will stay on internet archives for eternity, their sermonising 180 or less characters that denounced 6 January in certitude!

China was quick to compare the response of its own Hong Kong Police to storming of the Assembly there two years ago, to the Capitol insurrection, including the display of the Confederate Flag and the attempt to pull off the US National Flag from its hoist and replace it with a Trump banner by the ‘mob’ of most unpatriotic and misguided folk incited by Trump himself that morning.
The damage to US reputation overseas will be an enduring one, in private and in public, leaders and diplomats will use 6 January to dilute any criticism of their own imperfections and lack of true democracy in their realms! The Global Democracy project suffered a severe set back.
If the Congress had after reassembling, just had speeches by their leaders and voted to confirm the election results straight away, after condemning the violation of their sacred grounds, some semblance of democratic ethics and prestige of democracy could be salvaged. More than 100 Representatives and half a dozen senators chose to support the objections to the election results even after the storming of the Capitol. That is where the Capitol capsized, that edifice which was listing from the physical assault of the mob, now revealed that it was incapable of inspiring spirit, that it was truly partisan and hollow. Just imagine if the House of Representatives Speaker was Mr McCarthy and not Ms Pelosi? The actual coup attempt was this vote to overturn the election results by elected Republican Party representatives. This was being observed acutely by Russia, China, India, amongst others as how permissive and partisan electoral politics can create a path to power without accountability, a ‘democratic’ way of enshrining a dictatorship!
Then you find that The Capitol Police itself was party to the violence, enabling it. A heist of high security documents, both plans and records, from the offices of Congressional Committees relating to Intelligence, Defence Appropriations, Homeland Security and more, besides the sack of the Speaker’s office. We know now that the remote enabling of all computers and laptops to deny access was never carried out when the Capitol was overrun. We know that the possibility of US strategic assets information being hallowed out and served on a platter to Mr Putin is very likely.
If you can and are open to connect the dots, I can call your attention to the Russian hands in Trump’s 2016 run, the Mueller Probe, the assault of The Capitol as simply episodes in Russian undermining of the US Polity and the US State. It was a masterclass from the Spy who became a political leader, one who never underestimates his need for leverage that comes from ‘knowing’. At a given, some two decades worth of intelligence gathering edge was lost, may be Humint and Elint networks that were ‘sleeper gatherers’ are now compromised which may lead to NORAD rejigging the existing intelligence apparatus from scratch. I can also see unscrupulous FSB elements willing to trade information to the Chinese for good considerations as a ‘side business’.
The agents must have come like MAGA, only they would not be in fore front, of the interface between mob and police, they would have slunk in and weaved their way to the key offices first. Perhaps it was their doing, that so many of these offices had their doors disarmed and mob elements were able to pillage them thereafter! Several files, laptops, devices were reported missing by individual Congresspersons, in the initial reporting, after which the US Officialdom would have stepped into the breach and stopped further embarrassment. Countries which have high security information exchange with the US like FVEY ( Five Eyes with Australia, Canada, UK, USA and NZ), BECA with India US, are also vulnerable, because intelligence is not one way traffic.If Wikileaks damaged US interests by declassifying some excesses in Iraq committed by contractors, then this was a Thermonuclear event that staged itself in The Capitol raid!
Hence my assessment that US polity and government is damaged. Mr Trump as an actor went up several notches from being a disrupter to a destroyer! The need for a thorough probe into this assault and whether it was financed and organised by Russian agents with the active support of Mr Trump and Mr Rudy Galliani is an international requirement and not just a domestic affair of the USA! That Mr Trump is a businessman is a given and knows the art of the deal, that he made a deal to extricate himself, will be clear when he most probably escapes from the United States agencies that have wanted to go after him for Russia Probe and other misdemeanours and may now want to look at him afresh for this capsizing of The Capitol! America will soon have a President missing not just at the Inauguration 2021!
Clues to this extent will emerge when Russian or former Soviet expats in USA get popped off in mysterious circumstances over the next couple of years. It will emerge when US military platforms notice missile locks and interceptions in South China Sea or over Russian Airspace over time, when civilians will notice data leaks, feel surveilled and violated!Mr Putin has switched from his favourite juice to lingerie and inner wear for delivering his intentions! May be in USA the favoured flavour would present even more innocuously!
The Biggest Security Breach of the Western Alliance was staged on 6 January 2021 using a weakness of democracy, the right to protest as a platform. However, it is very clear right from the beginning, that it could not have been staged without insider assists!
