At this moment, the events that are uppermost are the least of our concerns. We have Delhi Police officially Tweeting to the general public to vacate Shaheen Bagh as a protest arena as it is causing traffic hassles to general public and to school children, we have a petition before the SC by some applicants on orders seeking relief by way of clearing Shaheen Bagh area of protestors. Why this unusual game afoot? Did not the propaganda that these are paid agents work? Did not the ‘othering’ weaken their cause? Is there a plot to now vacate the place as Delhi is already under NSA and the police need not get a magisterial order before vacating the place by force? Is there a timeline we are unable to see, of the approaching Republic Day parade when New Delhi hosts a strong man from Brazil whose ascent to power came in a similar trajectory to Mr Modi? ( For those who don’t know, an anti corruption crusade, now discredited held President Lula in jail and President Dilma Rousseff impeached, and the new documentary depicting the Dark Web of actors behind this including the captains of Brazil’s financial industry is now going viral, making people world over resonate with the dangers of Deep State Actors in a new view all together.(https://apnews.com/627e15874d494a5e59e2b9bde84f6757)
Of course, it is world wide phenomenon, where from Trump to Netanyahu, from President Xi to Putin, from Mr Bolsonaro to of course Mr Modi. What has happened is larger, where the fruits of globalisation and its flattening of barriers of trade and commerce, have led to the selective enrichment of a handful of capitalists, one which is now being studied as a Neo-capitalism in contradistinction to the post World Wars Capitalism that was seen to go hand in hand with liberal democracy. NeoCapitalism differs fundamentally from its predecessor in its framing of public discussions and decision making, masking ulterior motives by guile and deceit using the screen of, you guessed it, ‘Ultra Nationalism’ and Authoritarian Majoritarianism.
While every one assumes that this was the first time in human history that moneybags intervened and skewered the political process upending a evolutionary process and substituting it with retrograde movements such as trade wars, restrictions in movement of peoples and in freedom of expression and dissent, they could not be more wrong. Cut to medieval India and you see how the ‘Marwari Merchant guild’ supported Aurangzeb against Dara Shikoh in the early 17th century Moghul struggle for power, because they wanted a strong man and not a liberal! Then within a century they actually chose to back the East India Company against the Nabobs of Bengal and Oudh, for they wished to rid themselves of the chaos of a teetering Mohul ruled India and sought a Company to herald the affairs. British India was catastrophic, Aurangzeb too was catastrophic for ordinary people, for even middle class of that time, and now documented in its minutae, the mess of what they left behind economically is what brought India’s GDP down from being 30% of the Global one to pittance in a short span of 100 years, from 1750 to 1850! The Indian economy further shrivelled and India faced unprecedented famines and levels of poverty for the next 100 years until our Independence ensconced liberal forces under Nehru.

The canard that it was somehow Indira Gandhi who inserted the word Socialist into our Preamble and made our Constitution a socialist one is one of the thinnest ruses I have seen come from the generally intellectually challenged Right Wing. Our Directive Principles meant that we were established as a Welfare State, it was Indira Gandhi who weakened it in 1971 by writing down the Fundamental Right to property, before it was struck off entirely in 1978. 25th and 44th Amendments to the Constitution, started by an Indira Congress of ‘Garibi Hatao’ fame and ended by a Janata Party Government whose icon was Socialist Jayaprakash Narayan! If you can see how Kashmiri Pandits were forced into exodus from the Valley in a Government that came after a corruption campaign forced out a Congress led government, ( VP Singh made political capital out of Bofors) and how now Mr Modi made similar capital from a non existent ‘presumptive loss 2G Scam’, and carried out Part II of the same Act Kashmir, by writing down Article 370, reducing Kashmir into a UT, you can connect how the Deep State operates, not just with the capture of a Deep State Actor like DySP Davinder Singh who is linked in mysterious ways with the 2001 Parliament Attack for which Afzal Guru for our ‘collective conscience’ was hung, and Pulwama 2019 and now an attack on Republic Day 2020 which was somehow by a low-level mistake thwarted by his arrest near Chandigarh? In any other country, no right thinking media would have laid the blame of Kashmiri pandit exodus on the INC which was in the opposition, would have wanted to get to the bottom of the Parliament Attack of 2001 which was distracted by Operation Parakram, and Pulwama convoy attack which was subverted by jingoism over Balakot air raids. What the arrest of this copper brings is handle for Pakistan, messing up a narrative that has held so far about the rogue neighbour, and increasing scepticism of the international community which has watched with dismay, India’s eager re-embrace of hyphenation with Pakistan which with great reluctance it undertook under the Obama Administration! We know that American Deep State was hypercritical of Obama, it has overturned every foreign policy initiative he undertook from Cuba offshore Florida, to Iran N Deal and the IndoPak Hyphenation, which he substituted with ‘AfPak’ region. Like how Iran succumbed to US posturing, like how EU is getting outmanoeuvred there, can’t we see India getting stuck again with Pakistan without us so much as realising?
Liberal forces world over see two essential aids to reverse this onslaught of NeoCapitalism or Deep State. First is climate change which is right now grabbing increasing attention because of the forthrightness of Greta Thunberg and the evidence of unusually warm summers, warmer winters and the Australian bizarre weather patterns this Summer with bushfires and golfball sized hail! It is money that finally matters to these wonks and monks. It is their Almighty Possession. And while many thought that Satya Nadella was speaking only to India in a Indian context of CAA and NRC, he was actually making a larger liberal case for this Dark Web Community of Neo Capitalists. Without liberalism and socialism, the world as we know it, may not be productive enough, cohesive enough, for these capitalists to milk!
